Alvin N. "Al" Hysler

August 8, 1916 ~ April 16, 2017 (age 100) 100 Years Old


Alvin N. “Al” Hysler 100, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.

Alvin was born on August 8, 1916 in Springfield the son of Miller Albert and Maude Anna (Veara) Hysler. 

Al is survived by one sister, Doris McLaughlin and her son, Mark (Katie) McLaughlin.  Surviving from Al’s marriage to Wanda of 57 years are children; Dan Hysler (companion, Sharon Duffin), Gayla (Chuck) Stone, and Greg Hysler.  Surviving from Al’s marriage to Arvada are children; Al Hysler Jr., Connie Hysler Falconer, and Gary Hysler.  Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and cousins.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George Charles; recent wife, Wanda (Brown) Hysler; first wife, Arvada (Nichols) Hysler and their daughter, Patricia Hysler Baughman.

Al attended Harvard Park Elementary, and graduated from Feitshans High School in 1934.  After high school, Al was the floor manager and skating instructor for Moonlight Gardens Skating Palace for 10 years.  Al was employed by C.I.P.S., Springfield Boiler Works, Hurmer Mfg, Allis-Chalmers, Martin Oil Company, and was a Foster Grandparent Mentor.  Al owned and operated a trucking company, a Mobil service station, and was a self-employed accomplished master carpenter.  Al constructed a cabin boat and a sail boat that he enjoyed on Lake Springfield.

Al was a member of the YMCA, Independent Order of Odd Fellows #166, The Prop Club, the Council of Lake Springfield Clubs, the Polka Lovers Klub of America, and German-American D.A.N.K.

Cremation will be accorded.  Al will be united with Wanda at Roselawn Memorial Park with a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 with Reverend Larry Hanson officiating.
