Antonio Ramirez, 96, of Springfield, was called home on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital.
Antonio was born on September 2, 1921 in Galesburg the son of Eulalio and Guadalupe Perez Ramirez. He married Antonia Hernandez in 1960 at Ft. Madison, IA; she preceded him in death on January 27, 2015.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. He worked as a track inspector for Burlington Northern Railroad retiring after 41 years.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Galesburg. He enjoyed watching old western movies, especially John Wayne, wrestling and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed, canning and gardening, his garden was admired by many. He loved wearing and showing off his Stetson hats and spent much time listening and enjoying Mexican music.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by son, Anthony Ramirez of Springfield; daughter, Yolanda Perez of Springfield; siblings, Mary Lou (Richard) Gonzales, Jane (Genaro) Ramirez Reyes, Loreto Ramirez and Eulalio Paul Ramirez; grandchildren, Linda (Kevin) Koechle, Rebecca (Hector) Espitia and Eric Perez; three great-grandchildren, Joshua and Logan Koechle and Cecelia Espitia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Reverend Clint Honkomp O.P. officiating. Graveside services will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 20, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct honors.
