James E. Lewis Sr., 91, of Springfield IL, passed away in the company of his family on Saturday January 11, 2020.
James was born at the family home in Berlin IL, on August 13, 1928 the son of Earl R. and Augusta C. (Brandt) Lewis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edra Grace Lewis; a grandson, Troy Lewis; both his parents; as well as all of his 8 siblings.
James is survived by his children, James E. Lewis Jr. of Springfield, Karen K. Lewis of Springfield, David W. Lewis of Carlinville, Timothy L. (wife, Wanda) Lewis of Owensboro KY, Christine A. (husband, Jeff) Daugherty of Springfield, and Cynthia K. Lewis of Springfield; 13 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Michael, David Jr., Jennifer, Karla, Kari, Jami, Tori, Melinda, Melissa, Kaitlyn, Wesley, and Austin; 20 Great grandchildren; as well as many beloved Nieces and Nephews.
James loved bowling and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He spent a lot of time traveling, camping and fishing. James also enjoyed his time watching old western movies.
He was a very hard worker, starting off his career driving buses for the Chicago Transit Authority and then driving semis across America. He then went to work for the Wilbert Vault Company for 13 years as a supervisor. After retiring from Wilbert, he drove everything from buses to limousines working for Capital City Limousines, as well as several other companies.
Cremation service are going to be accorded.
A memorial service will be held on January 15, 2020 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home on 530 N. 5th St. in Springfield IL. The memorial service will begin at 4:00pm with Reverend Larry Hanson Officiating.
