Lloyd K. Leka Jr. Passed away on December 10, 2018 at his residence. He was born January 7, 1938 in LaFeria, Texas to Lloyd Kenneth and Leander (McManus) Leka.
Lloyd is survived by his wife Sue Leka of Buffalo, daughter Tessica Leka (Oscar Stout) from Brookshire Texas, stepchildren Cindy (Mark) Davis-Blair of Springfield and John (Donna) Davis Jr. of Sherman. Siblings Shirley Rhoads of Springfield, James (Sharon) Leka of Riverton, Vernie (Bob) Marler of Illiopolis, Gary (Carrie) Leka of McAllen Texas. Grandchildren Cade Bartels, Cole Bartels, Katy (Frank) Filson Pinkley, Angela (Robert) Sipe, Ashley Davis, Oliver Davis, and Aden Davis. Great Grandchild Lincoln Sipe and several Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Chris Leka.
He graduated from Tri-City High School in 1955 and joined the Army where he served in the 249th Engineer Battalion stationed in Germany.
Lloyd was a fifth-generation farmer in the Buffalo area. He was a DeKalb seed dealer since 1981 and was recognized as a Dealer of the Year several times. He won first place in the National Corn Growers Association Corn Yield Contest for Illinois in 2003. He served on the Mechanicsburg Grain Elevator Board of Directors for many years. He was Tax Assessor for Mechanicsburg and Buffalo Hart townships for eight years.
He enjoyed owning and racing late model stock cars in the 1970s. In more recent years, he enjoyed boating and camping on Lake Shelbyville in the summer and snowmobiling in the woods of Wisconsin, Yellowstone, and Colorado with his family and friends. He enjoyed life to the fullest, always had a smile, and never met a stranger.
Family graveside services this Saturday, December 15, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 2, 2019 at the Sherman Athletic Club.
