Krieg Lee Elfgen, 61, of Springfield, IL passed away at St. John’s Hospital on Sunday April 11, 2021.
Krieg was born in Alton, IL on May 28, 1959 to Marilyn June Davis and Malcolm Joe Elfgen.
He was preceded in death by his fiancé, Margaret Pike.
Krieg is survived by his daughter, Tiama Elfgen (fiancé, Jacob Beaird), and his son, Baylon Elfgen, both of Springfield, and the mother of his children Lorretta Schmitt-Oller (fiance Joshua Oller), and close friends Bryce Cody, Harry Paries, Stephen Hollenback and Tanner Brown.
-If someone ever wanted to get to know Krieg, one could simply see the goodness he left behind through his children. To them, he has left his mindfulness, intelligence, curiosity and drive to love and explore the world around them. One has never met someone as thoughtful and beautiful as Krieg. He never ceased to amaze anyone in his broad knowledge of all he wished to discover and learn. Krieg was a man of many words, including the ones that had the privilege of being spoken to the ones he loved, or written down and kept forever. One always knew when he was around, whether it be from the smell of fresh coffee in the morning, the lingering sweet scent of tobacco from a pipe, or from getting lost in the tales he spun from nothing more than a brief idea he thought worthy of such an expedition.
Some people are difficult to be described by words alone. These types of people are ones that must be experienced and enjoyed in the brief time they are around. An enigma of a man, one so unique and lovely, is something you must see, must love and endure, to believe.
Krieg is a man who will always be loved, missed, and thought over, and is someone who will never be forgotten by all those who had the pleasure to ever meet and love him.
“Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” -Theodor Geisel
