On Friday, February 5th, 2021, Edward “Eddie” Louis Anslinger, beloved son, brother, uncle, honorary father, grandfather, great grandfather, and Notre Dame’s biggest fan, passed away peacefully at the age of 80. Edward was born on January 20th, 1941, in St. Louis, Missouri to Edward and Helen (Narzinski) Anslinger, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him are his sisters Lorraine “Nippy” Vandersteen (1934-2020) and Audrey Weber (1930-2021).
Edward (or as we lovingly call him, Ed) is survived by his sister Joan Prater and his brother John Anslinger. Also surviving are his honorary daughter Diana Harter Swinson (husband Dan), grandchildren David Durbin (Jessica), Thomas Swinson, Kimmy Swinson-Mollica (Michael), and great-grandchildren Ava Swinson and Baby Durbin. Ed was a teacher in St. Louis for many years, and loved every moment. His true passion, though, was coaching kids in basketball and softball. He won several championships along the way, but he always said each win belonged to the kids. After relocating to Springfield, Illinois, Ed began a career with Huck’s convenience store, which he retired from in 2004. He then moved to Edinburg, where he tutored many kids and helped many others with sports tips and tricks. He rarely missed an Edinburg home game. Whether basketball, softball, baseball, or volleyball, Ed was almost always there, even if his grandchildren weren’t playing.
Due to current health concerns, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please consider donating to the Ed Anslinger funeral fund to help offset the cost of Ed’s final arrangements. Donations can be mailed to Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St, Rochester, IL. 62563.
Farewell, Ed. Let’s win one for the Gipper
