Edward L Gatewood

Mr. Edward L. Gatewood 68, of Springfield, IL was born on February 6, 1952 the son of Eddie L. Gatewood Sr. and Nancy Gatewood-Hunt in Greenville Mississippi. 

Mr Gatewood was preceded in death by both of his parents along with his grandparents Katie Redic-Jones an George Haymer Sr., and his brother Freddie Gatewood.

  He love to listen to music and play his flute. He also enjoyed riding his bike. 

 Mr. Gatewood moved from East St. Louis, IL where he also attended Lincoln High School to Springfield, IL  where he lived until God called him home. 

 On November 11, 2020, Mr. Edward Gatewood answered his master’s call and went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his daughters, Tralona C. Robinson and Latesha Johnson; granddaughters, Kaela Robinson and Rhylei Johnson; great grandson, Kylon Jones; step daughter, Teresa Taylor; step son, Andre Taylor; step granddaughters, Mikya Friarson and Te’Mya Friarson; brothers, Eddie (Cheryl) Gatewood, Bernard Gatewood, Johnny (Mozetta) Gatewood; sisters, Patricia (Stan) Roberts, and Linda Gatewood; step father, Robert Lee Hunt; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Cremation services are being accorded by Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home of Springfield, IL.

The funeral home will be observing current C.D.C recommendations and State of Illinois mandates during the services for Mr. Gatewood. All in attendance are required to wear a mask when entering the funeral home. Only a certain amount of guests are aloud to enter the funeral home at any given time, and will be monitored by the funeral home staff.

There will be a Celebration of Life held for Mr. Gatewood at 530 North 5th St., Springfield, IL 62702 Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home on Saturday November 28, 2020. Visitation will be held from 11am till the time of the Memorial Service at 12 noon. Services will start promptly at 12 noon.

He is gone
