James Parrish

James (Jim) E. Parrish of Dawson passed away August 2, 2022 at home. 

He was born August 25, 1944 in Dos Palos, California, the son of Thomas and Edna (nee Schad) Parrish.

He married Loretta Wurth on November 8, 1969 in Belleville, IL.

Jim is survived by his wife, Loretta; two children: Jennifer (Brian) Fishburn of Mechanicsburg and Rebecca (David) Mourey of Dawson; two grandchildren Aaron and Rachel Fishburn, one step-grandchild Emma Mourey; and two sisters, Dianne (Roger) Ross and Donna (Steve) D’Avalos.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He retired from the state of Illinois as an electronic technician after 33 years of service. Jim was a 52 year member of the Carlock Masonic Lodge #904 in Mechanicsburg. He was an active member and enjoyed volunteering for fundraisers and serving in all leadership roles including Worshipful Master. Jim was a 60 year member of Turkey Hill Grange #1370. He served as a Buffalo-Dawson-Mechanicsburg sewer commissioner for many years. Jim enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and volunteering. He attended Buffalo Hart Presbyterian Church. In retirement, he enjoyed helping his friend Mike with harvest season. Jim also enjoyed fishing, ham radios, anything electronic, and watching NASCAR racing.

He graduated from Freeburg High School, Louisville Technical Institute, and University of Illinois at Springfield.

Private services will be held at Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice. In memory of Jim, take time to visit with a loved one.
