John Childers Obituary

John R. Childers, 64, of Springfield, passed away on Friday October 9, 2020 at Memorial Medical Center in the company of his family.

John was born in Springfield on December 19, 1955 the son of Alfred and Dorothy (Henderson) Childers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Alan Childers; sister, Starlet Susan Conrad; and a nephew, Michael Childers.

John is survived by his sister, Terri Lassley (fiancé, John Grimes); son, John Childers; daughter, Robin Childers; grandchildren, Derek, Aya, Max, and Griffin; great granddaughter, Luna; nieces and nephews, Shawn Atkison, Jamie Wammack, Harley Stone, Christopher Childers, Meredith Childers, and Steve Colston; and great nephew, Alex Conrad; as well as many other beloved family members and friends.

When John was a young man he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and he will receive military honors and Camp Butler National Cemetery.

John enjoyed hunting for arrowheads and hunting for mushrooms. He was a real outdoorsman, but he especially loved fishing.

Graveside services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 10AM. Family and friends may come to Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home in Springfield, IL between 9AM and 9:25AM to prepare to go to the cemetery prior to the services.

Face covering are required to be in attendance at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
