Juanita “Swanee” McMillan Obituary

Juanita “Swanee” McMillan, 99, of Chatham, formerly of Pleasant Plains, passed away at St. John’s Hospital on Wednesday January 25, 2023.

Juanita was born in Kentucky on February 8, 1923 and is the daughter of Roy and Eva (Powell) Barnett. She married Roy L. (Pat) McMillan on November 25, 1943 in the house that Roy was born in. Roy and Juanita were married for 79 years.

Roy was a farmer and Juanita was a homemaker for many years raising her children. She then went on to do secretarial work for various Christian churches in the Springfield area. She was a lifelong member of the 1st Church of God in Springfield. Juanita enjoyed embroidery, taking care of her family, and cooking (especially triple layer Coconut Cake).   

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alfred Barnett and sister, Lila Glick.

Juanita is survived by her husband, Roy; children, Suzanne McMillan and Michael (Bonnie) McMillan; grandchildren, Julia Marino, Khourtney (Micah) Miller, and Jaclyn (Nathan) Dold; great grandchildren, Brady and Bodie.

Visitation will be on Friday February 3, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:00am at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 North 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at 11:00am and burial will follow at Farmington Cemetery in Farmingdale, IL.

Pastor Russell Smith will be presiding
