Phillip Alphin, 66, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center.
He was born on December 10, 1954, in Atlanta, GA., the son of William and Susan (Cofer) Alphin. His family later settled in the Sherman and Williamsville area where he grew up. He married Sara Merkelbach on June 19, 1976 and she survives. Phil worked as distribution clerk for almost 20 years at SIU, in addition to working as a Stagehand for Union IATSE Local 138, and enjoyed working at the Illinois State Fair. He was a big friendly fellow with a great personality and enjoyed anything to do with Flea Markets and loved a good bargain.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jennifer; and sister, Jeannie.
Phil is survived by his wife, Sara; son, Phillip “PJ” and daughter, Dani; grandchildren, Hunter, Isabella, Austin, and Alexis Sims and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 26 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. Fifth Street, in Springfield, from 10:00AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00AM with Pastor Dave Beals officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
